Week 1 Day 1 – Pairing
I’m sitting here with an hour before lecture for week 2 day 2 starts and I just wanted to make sure I get yesterday’s post out. First day was great! Very, very busy, as I’m sure the rest of the program’s going to be this way. The program’s designed so that you’re not actually expected to finish all your projects for the day, so there’s a lot left over. It’s been said that there’s only a handful of people who have ever finished all of their projects, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be a part of the majority when it comes to completeness of the projects, at least during the main curriculum. I want to try to finish up the rest of the projects during the job search curriculum.
Yesterday was mainly an introduction to App Academy for lecture, of which also focused on the Code of Conduct. During pair programming, we covered a lot of what was covered during the prep work so majority of it I understood. There was a couple new things I learned, for example the methods take
and drop
were very useful in implementing my own version of the Array#rotate
.
The most stressful part I felt, was the assessment. I knew the material for sure, but the time pressure definitely got to me. A simple hiccup or snag would throw me off and induce a little bit of panic. Definitely some lost time there.
The amount of readings and videos was pretty brutal, and I can tell it’s only gonna get worse as the days and weeks roll on. As soon as 6PM hit, I started with all the daily tasks: progress report, readings and videos, solutions and quizzes. Next thing you know, it’s 10PM and I haven’t left App Academy.
That’s pretty much it, getting ready for today’s lecture, which includes references and scope, as well as some other topics. I’ll talk to you guys later!
