Week 5 Day 5 – Asteroids!
Sorry for the late post guys! This weekend is a weekend absolutely FILLED with homework and studying for A05 assessment.
I really don’t like the fact that the A05 assessment is on a Thursday this week, and as a result, the practice assessment is released, and for this assessment, administered tomorrow, Monday. Which meant that majority of this weekend was spent practicing on items that we “speculate” are on the assessment. It also doesn’t give us a weekend to practice the practice assessment. To layer all of that on top of everything, we have about 6-7 hours of actual homework for starting jQuery work on Monday, as well as some CSS material to cover and add to our recipe pages.
One thing I don’t really like about the way App Academy is doing with their CSS and HTML curriculum is sprinkling sections of it throughout the last month. I would prefer their CSS and HTML curriculum to be like all the other subjects that have been covered so far, short 1-2 weeks of intensive study on that topic. So while CSS and HTML are short and a bit easier to grasp, I would have appreciated 3 dedicated days of homework and projects to JUST CSS and HTML. Which means that over the course of three days, we would build our recipe pages from start to finish. I think that makes a little bit more sense.
That said, on Friday, we went over different ways to pass in unknown number of arguments into a function, and how to use those to bind them to other functions. It was a really interesting and fun exercise. The most fun part of the day was working on Asteroids. I really wish I had more time to work on the game, and I suspect I’ll be revisiting that game the moment I get the chance. I definitely struggled with the game, especially since I was partnerless, mostly by choice since my partner was absent. I did have the opportunity to pair with another person, which would have been awesome given how fast I know this person thinks, but at the same time, the speed in which the person thinks would have left me in the dust, and I’m not quite sure I would have learned as much as I did alone.
I think that’s pretty much it for Friday, I REALLY need to get back to studying for this assessment. Talk to you guys next week!
