Week 10 Day 1 – First Day on the Job Search and as HiR
Ayy, super late post, I don’t really know where I’m going to find the time to continue blogging, but I’ll try my best. Please forgive me if I miss a couple days. My workload increased ten-fold since becoming a Hacker-in-Residence. And that’s not counting my ambitions for what I want to accomplish while I’m here.
Yesterday was the first day on the job as HiR, which meant tons of training. We shadowed a couple of the current HiR’s to see how they conducted interviews, as well as did tons of readings.
Yesterday was also the first day of job search curriculum. We started with our resumes today. I had mine pretty well hashed out before even starting the program, so all I had to do was fill in the blanks. One caveat that really made me want to change my entire resume was the concept of badges. This came about because the career coaches really pounded it home that the first wall of defense was non-technical recruiters. Which means that my assumption of the first people to see my resume, and will understand what my programming logo badges mean, was incorrect. Onto a different idea. Dam, I really liked my badges idea too.
Anyways, it’s late. I have a morning HiR shift tomorrow, so I gotta get up early for it. I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow! Hopefully it won’t be as late, but no guarantees!
