Week 13 Day 3 – Falling Behind
The struggles of being a Hacker-in-Residence. I’m really starting to feel like I’m falling behind. Granted, I’m kind of comparing myself to my peers who aren’t hackers. But heck, even then, compared to my hacker peers, I’m also slightly behind. And the culprit for dragging me so far behind is my JavaScript project. Majority of the other hackers have finished the general functionalities of their JS project and they’re mostly working on improving it aesthetically or adding new features. My project’s like 40% done? And there’s no partial completion with the project, it’s mostly all or nothing. I could say about 80% is complete, but I would want to refine certain areas of my graphics.
I’m also behind on two of my projects for algorithms and data structures, and by the end of this week, I’ll be behind by about four projects. Granted, at this point, my JS project is a priority since (1) I need it to start applying, and (2) it’s due on Monday. The advantage of being a Hacker is that we don’t accrue job strikes, and because of that, being behind on projects only serves to slow my progress, but not put me at risk for owing $18k outright.
I’m also behind on a couple job application materials, which is also holding me back from applying comfortably to some companies I was considering. The lack of a second, even a third project as a result of being a hacker on my resume has me slightly insecure. But there is the bonus of just having a Software Engineering Internship, which is what being a Hacker is at App Academy, on my resume and being able to work on projects with a pre-existing code base, I’m hoping that that particular detail on my resume will offset needing a third item on my resume, even though I do intend on having a third item on my resume, and even a fourth and fifth, it’s just a matter of when.
I think that’s pretty much it for tonight, gotta get back to work. Thanks for reading!
